You can't really compare them both - it's like apples vs oranges. Having spent the last couple days playing Aion beta (only logging on to WoW for raids) I can say that Aion will NOT be a failure like other "WoW killer" MMOs however I doubt it will beat 11 million+ players and make WoW obsolete. Both games have their own feel and style so I think it's imminent that both games will have their own loyal player base.
