With ToAU we got COR, PUP, BLU jobs and with WOTG we got DNC and SCH jobs. None of these jobs used any new class of weapons. We have to go back to the RoZ expansion as the last expansion to add new weapon classes as well as jobs. I currently don't see much need for any new jobs with future updates and expansions. But it might be interesting to see some new weapons types.
My thoughts: Whips - equippable by DNC, COR, PUP. Relatively long delay (300-400 range) and perhaps slashing type damage
Chained weapons (like flail mace or nunchaku) - 2H weapon type equippable by NIN, MNK, WAR, PLD, WHM, PUP depending on whether it was flail mace type or nunchuk type. Blunt damage. Delay of nunchuk types in the SWD range and Flail mace type in the 2H weapon range.
Any thoughts or other weapons you'd like to see? My reason behind whips is because i'd like to Indiana Jones out my COR lol. That and it would be cool to see a few new weapon animations in the game. SE made their life easy by adding COR/PUP/BLU/DNC/SCH without any unique weapon types.
Yeah, whips and nunchucks are cool (Whips are from FF4,5,8, BTW, nunchuks from FF1,3,8), but there should be books (FF3, FFT) and bells (FF3,5). This game has whistles (ahem, Dhalmel Whistle), so why not bells? And I'm sure many players would want to use tomes to whack the enemy (Books should work extra well against vermin as they make for an effective bug squasher).
Think of the possibilities:
Yeah, Rune Bell, Earth Bell, Giyaman Bell, but also
Tinkerbell, Ding-a-ling, Liberty Bell, Tolling Bell (the bell tolls for thee), Jingle Bell, and the Taco Bell (Enchantment: Dispenses 1 Taco, Additional Effect: automatically Flee to the (zone) border). If they ever add Geomancer, they have to make it use Bells.
Books, you can have dictionaries. Why use Schultz's Stratagems for XP when you can use it as a weapon? SCH draws from FFT's Calculator (in fact, it functionally is SCH), which wielded dictionaries as weapons.
Of course, FFT had Dancers wielding cloths (how about rugs? Let a DNC whack a Colibri with a full persian carpet), and there were also bags (handbags? How about a Galka in DNC AF wielding a handbag. It would have storage capacity and its damage output would be dependant on how many items are stored in it). FF7 had combs and pins for Red XIII. It would be priceless to see a Galka say "King Behemoth, feel the wrath of the mighty.... COMB! I'm going to comb that untamed mane and make you feel pretty!" (we all know KB is so hostile because he's unhappy with his appearance. He just wants to look like a purple-furred two-horned pony). FF9's giant forks are also worthwhile. BLU's should be able to wield it. Make it a subcategory of Polearm and have them drop off of Gigas & Trolls. You can have Dinner Fork, Silver Fork, Mythril Fork, Tongue Fork, and Hume's Fork as a high end fork (kudos to anyone who gets the obscure reference).
But it seems SE is more content creating new Jobs than creating new Weapon classes. I think the last new classes were added with RotZ (Katana, Great Katana. I think Polearms might've existed earlier despite DRG & SAM, the 2 biggest shafters, being added with RotZ). They made hexaguns a subcategory of gun and gave all 3 ToAU jobs regular weapons, swords, daggers+swords+guns, H2Hs.
