Assassin Guide in EQ2

Author: inwowgold Source: http://www.inwowgold.com

The Assassin is probably one of the hardest DPS class in the game to play. We are close to useless when using ranged attacks, so we need to stay in close and behind the mobs at all times to do any good. The Assassin is the most fun DPS class to play since it is so challenging.
The Assassins are deadly, powerful characters that hunt down their prey. Their primary attribute is Agility and they usually wear medium armor. Their weapons include the staff, spear, hammer, dagger, mace, flail, mace, axe and sword. The Assassin's key knowledge is assassination, traps and weapons. We will try to touch a little bit upon most aspects of the Assassin.
Without doubt the most important stat for an Assassin is STR. So focus on getting this as high as possible. 700 is a nice STR to shoot for on raids. INT is also important as it sets the damage amount of your poisons. Get this as high as you can without sacrificing STR to do so.
It's also important for an Assassin to have high HP and good resists. This is because we stay close to the mobs and have to soak up quite a bit of damage from AoE's and the like.
Assassins can out damage most classes in the short term which means the damage comes quickly but high hit point mobs or creatures that can heal themselves might give them trouble. Much of the ability to solo will be determined by timing, target selection, and player skill. As you increase in level the base stats for race become more and more irrelevant as equipment can easily offset any disadvantage you have.
You will need to spend a lot of your time behind your target, which means unlike most other group members and you should take care where you are standing. There are increased risks for additional encounters which will require communication with the tank (using gentle reminders or a lot of screaming).
Timing is a critical aspect of controlling your damage output. A properly taunting tank can keep a creatures attention, but without restraint, the amount of damage an Assassin do is ungoldy and will draw the beasts' ire. Learn to master stuns for maximum effectiveness and control when your enemy can cast.
A good poison can add damage and make or break an encounter and increase your damage output/utility in a group. See your local alchemist and ask them to hook you up. You can use three poisons at the same time as long as they are of different colors. So you can use 1 red, 1 purple and 1 blue at the same time. During raids you use Grandmaster's Hemotoxin for damage and talk with the rest of the scouts on the raid about debuff poisons (the purple ones) since everyone should not be using the same one. And the last but not least, the blue poison comes in turn. On raids you should either use Grandmaster's Ignorant Bliss or Grandmaster's Essence of Turgur if you don't have agro problems
With high damage stealth attacks the Assassin moves in and brings the pain. Not designed to take much in the damage department, it requires cunning and strategy for maximum efficiency. One involves the ability to hide from most enemies, unleashing their strikes without warning. Another involves being able to tip their blades with poison, causing damage and other adverse effects. They're one of the few classes trained to use thrown and projectile weaponry firing from a distance.
