After Wrath of the Lich King you promptly hit level 80 and settled into the routine of doing dailies and heroics in Northend. Still raising gold for your Mechano-Hog or Tundra Mammoth and fed up with camped spots in Northend? Good news! Outland is now the competition free zone for farming and grinding. In my opinion if you have to fight for a spot or constantly having your nodes stolen, you are likely better off finding a new place to grind and will make more money in the long run if you don't have to compete for everything.
Outland is an abandoned wasteland these days except for a few people trying to level up alternative characters. Unless you play on an extremely high population server, expect to make money non-stop in Outland off of herbs, mines, instances and reputation items. People will always need the resources from outland to level trade skills such as engineering, blacksmithing, etc. Many of the epic items that can be created or found in Outland resources are still good at level 75 or so. Even though, items sell for less than they once did on the auction house, there is still plenty of cash to be made in Outland.
Outland is so deserted on some server that you can fly around Hellfire Peninsula 3 times and come out with 275 wow gold worth of ore and gems. The best place to mine and find herbs is the Isle of Quel'Danas. Once, an overcrowded daily quest destination,
Quel'Danas is now a ghost town and full of rich adamantite ore that is never mined and mana thistles that never get picked. In an hour I was able to mine 50 adamantite ore and get 40 mana thistles, here with no competition at all. The only person I saw the entire time was a level 71 death knight doing dailies. Instead of selling the herbs I find, I send them to my scribe to make Darkmoon cards and armor and weapon vellum for my enchanter.
