Talking about group PvP, some players may take great interest, vise versa, others have no intetest in this topic. No matter what happens, group PvP is an issue of concern at that moment. So it is the time for all of us to take a quick look at it.
Protection warriors are a support class in groups. That means you hit things less with the intent of making them die, but rather to stop them from killing your friends.
-Hamstring. Hamstring is your best friend. Hamstring everything you possibly can. Most warriors only use it on their current target so they have more rage for damage. Since damage isn't your primary concern, you can afford to keep the enemy slowed while your high-damage compatriots mow them down.
You will find, in Battlegrounds especially, that Mages like to find clusters of enemies and make suicide AE rushes. If that happens, all you do is shield bash the mage and watch him get slaughtered before the silence wears off. It's an extremely undervalued ability.
-Silence (Improved Shield Bash). You will find, in Battlegrounds especially, that mages like to find clusters of enemies and make suicide AE rushes. If that happens, all you do is shield bash the mage and watch him get slaughtered before the silence wears off. It's an extremely undervalued ability.
-Stuns (Concussion Blow). The ability to stun anything at all for five seconds comes in handy at all times, in all ways.
--Stop the rogue from stabbing your squishies.
--Stop the hunter from shooting your squishies.
--Stop the warrior from manhandling your squishies.
--Stop the second healer from healing after you just shield bashed another one.
--Stop a second mage from AE-bombing your group after you just shield bashed another one.
The forty-five second cooldown keeps it from being overpowered, but it's a phenomenal tool.
-Taking up space. Much like a defensive lineman in football, a Protection Warrior can make a difference without doing any of the glory work. The majority of players will react to being attacked by fending off the attack and falling back. Use that to your advantage. When you see a group coming, run in and start the fight yourself. If you're engaged (and most of the time, you will be), get whoever you're fighting turned away from your group- use the "out of sight, out of mind" tendency many players have to keep their attention on you. (Often you can slowly pull them away from the battle, which is a positive in most cases, even if you move out of healing range. Pulling two of five enemies off to the side can easily swing the tide of a battle in favor of your group.)
If you're getting heals, eventually the enemy will fall off and start to hit other members of your team, but you've still bought valuable time for your DPSers to lay people out. And if you don't get healed (mainly a problem in pickup BGs), well.. that's what some warriors complain about, rushing in to die, but a Protection warrior needs to be willing to do that. Sometimes that's the best thing you can do in the grand scheme.
-Delay tactics. If you're attacked in the world with friends nearby, or are defending in a BG, simply being hard to kill can buy enough time for your compadres to show up and save the day. Use some of the tactics outlined above to stay alive and wait for the cavalry.
-Flag-carrying. Warsong Gulch only takes some gear to pull off against most teams, but since a flag carrier isn't really able to fight back, having CB and silence at your disposal makes you a little better suited than some other warrior in tank gear.
-Killing cloth. If all else fails and no one's paying attention to you, you're still a warrior with big weapons and the ability to cause pain in melee combat. Go up to a cloth or leather wearer and beat the hell out of them. You'll do decent damage- better than decent if you crit a Shield Slam- and since we're talking about casters by and large, you'll definitely get their attention by laying silences and stuns on them.
