Wrath of the Lich King is just a few months old. While many players immediately leveled to 80 as fast as they could, not everyone has or has just recently gotten WotLK. One of the most asked questions with the new expansion is, how to get flying mount to work in Northrend, as you probably noticed if you visited Northrend you cannot use your flying mount right away. You must complete some steps in order to unlock your mount.
Step 1: You must level to 77
Step 2: You need to do the Quests from Weslex Quickwrench at the Nesingwary Camp in Sholazar Basin Called "Need an Engine, Take an Engine" & "Have a Part Take a Part." You can get these quests at level 76, so if you happen to not be at Sholzar Basin at that point, at least following those so you can go grab your mount at 77 if you want.
Step 3: Talk to Professor Calver (must be level 77) where he will tell you to fly to Lakeslide Landing in Scholazar Basin. If you haven't gotten the Flightpath reading the quest will be very confusing, it is at Lakeslide Landing right in the middle of the map, just ride over there.
Step 4: Do the 2 Quests Pilot Vic gives you which will take all of 5 minutes.
Step 5: When you complete the quests you get to buy cold weather flying for 1000g, pay the wow gold and you can fly in Northrend.
If it's not obvious at this point you already have your flying mount from Outlands. If you don't, you will need to but a flying mount.
Some people may wonder if they really need to get Cold Weather Flying at 77, the answer is obviously no, you don't have to, but it does make questing quicker and some instances you will need a flying mount to get to.
