The Deed system is one of the most robust game play features of Lord of the Rings Online. In the Deed system, your character is given objectives to receive Deeds; there are much like quests, but involve no quest giver, and the rewards are wholly unique from quest rewards. While a quest reward may give you money, items, and the quintessential EXP, Deeds reward your character with things like titles, new abilities, and traits. It should be noted that Deeds also reward EXP.
There are five ways to get deeds in Lord of the Rings online, all of which correspond to the type of deed they are. The deed types are below.
The first deed type is Point of Interest Deed. It is a deed that you earn by arriving at specific areas, the points of interest thereof. You merely go to each point of interest to earn the deed's reward. You can look inside of your deed book to see which points you have already arrived at, and what the other ones are.
The second deed type is monster slayer deed. The monster slayer deeds are deeds that are obtained by killing a certain type of monster. These deeds often require you to slay several dozen to complete it. You can see a progress bar in your deed book that tells you how close to finishing the deed. On first completing this type of deed you obtain a title that corresponds to what type of monster you have slain. Upon continuing to slay this type of creature you eventually gain a virtue trait.
The third deed type is skill use deed. The Skill Use Deeds are deeds that obtained by using any one specific skill or type of skill you possess. These deeds often take long periods of time to complete, since they often require the use of the skill or skill type hundreds of times. With the monster slayer deeds, you may look in your deed book for a progress bar towards completion.
The fourth deed type is Region Quest Deed. It is a deed earned by completing a certain amount of quests in one specific area. The time it takes to complete these types of deeds vary greatly. The title earned by the completion of these deeds corresponds to the region of the quests you gained it from.
The fifth deed type is crafting deed. You earn a crafting deed by simply raising you skill high enough in any one craft skill. A title is gained upon completion that corresponds to the type of craft skill and the height of your skill level at the time of completion.
After completing a deed, you have the ability to reap the rewards and enjoy their use. Some Deeds have multiple steps and rewards to them, especially "Monster Slayer" Deeds. These deeds often will require you to play a number of monsters and you'll receive a title. Slay more of those monsters and you'll receive a virtue trait.
