Doing damage with a Hunter is not about the talent build. It's not about the gear you choose. It's about automation. To a certain degree, it sounds true. Here we can tell you how to lead Raid DPS with your Hunter in 60 seconds if you know how to copy and paste and press a button. We have the ability to take any 25 man geared hunter and do 10-20% more DPS than the owner can with his own character. It's not about skills, it's not about using the right abilities, and it's not about play-style. It's about automation.
Either it is the perfect rotation or it is about automation. Blizzard does not like Automation but the automation we are talking about is completely legit, in fact, Blizzard built this system.
Let's begin with a macro that will get you started on your Hunter Raid DPS automation. This is for Beast Mastery but it might be possible to manipulate this macro to work for Marksmanship or for Survival.
You can out DPS most of the other Hunter even those with better gear with this macro because this's a part of the automation process, this is called a button mashing macro. In fact you would just sit there and press this button nonstop but we don't even do that.
Let's explain this macro for those that are new to macros. The first two lines use 13 and use 14 are going to use both of your trinket slots. The next line is going to cast Bestial Wrath (if you're specced into Beast Mastery), the 4th line is going to cast kill command. The 5th line is the tricky part. Because BM Hunters usually use the Glyph of Serpent String and Glyph of Steady Shot so it is now feasible to add it into the rotation. What this line does is shoots off a serpent sting every time you switch targets or press shift. The important thing I just said is when you press shift, while mashing this button every 18 seconds you must press shift to refresh Serpent Sting, pretty hard right? The next line will cast Kill Shot when it is up. Then we are on to Steady Shot which is going to be the bread and butter of your Damage. The last line is for Rabid, your ferocity pet will usually have this ability if you spec into it.
That's the Macro and it's for Beast Mastery Hunters. We're sure you can see where you could replace Serpent Sting with Explosive Shot or whatever you like.
If you like to press a button repeatedly and press Shift every 18 seconds for boss fights that can last up to 10 minutes or more. But there's something else you can do with it. First you have to put it somewhere on your hot bar and bind it to a key though. I put mine on the right hot bar and bind it to the key.
There are several things you can do. If you have a G15 keyboard with macro capabilities or a N52 game pad or anything with auto-fire or turbo fire that can be assigned a key, go get it and dust it off.
Inside the G15 keyboard I will record a macro where I press and let it up and then I add a .1 second delay to the macro. I then will assign it to the G18 key and I will set the repeat options to "while pressed". This means that while I press the G18 key the macro will run every 1 second until I let it go. That is the same as pressing a button 10 times a second. Guess what just happened?
The G18 key is running a macro to press the key every 1 second. The key is what I bound to my macro above which means it is essentially pressing my macro 10 times a second. So what I do is hold down the G18 key on boss fights and press shift every 18 seconds and I dominate DPS. You don't have to have a G15 keyboard to do this you can use a game-pad or anything else that has a turbo or auto-fire button. The G15 keyboard can be set to continue to fire the macro until the key is pressed again if it bothers you to hold down the button.
Unless you try to use it to automate the character entirely, there's no way Blizzard can prevent the use of keyboard specific software or an external controller such as an N52 from autofiring. It's not as if you are using a third party program to modify any aspect of the game or to fully automate your character so that it plays for you. Essentially what you are doing is using the macro system Blizzard put in to its fullest capabilities.
