Blizzard Entertainment has updated its Wrath of the Lich King website with information on a new faction to be introduced in the second expansion for the popular World of Warcraft. The update reveals the Tuskarr, a nomadic race that fights for survival against the hostile forces of Northrend.
Despite the absence of any records documenting the tuskarr's past, many significant facts have recently come to light.
The tuskarr are a kind-natured nomadic race that roams the southern coastlines of Northrend, guided by the carved cyclopean statues that mark their seasonal fishing routes. The tuskarr's tribal affiliation is evidenced by the sigils inscribed on their tusks, and although they are a peaceful race, they are constantly beset by taunka and local murlocs.
Yet even their enemies marvel at the tuskarr's prowess and fearlessness in catching some of the most dangerous creatures in Northrend's frigid waters, including whales and giant squid. Not even the unnamed leviathans that lurk in the ocean's depths are beyond the tuskarr's reach.
The tuskarr have seen their share of difficult times, but with the Horde's recent arrival they have found a new ally in the ongoing struggle against the hostile forces of Northrend.
Factions in the MMORPG World of Warcraft are racial or ideological groupings of allies. At the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, the Blizzard development team discussed the ways in which faction reputation will work in the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion.
The Blizzard team introduced the concept of "Championing" which allows players to sport a specific faction's tabard during a heroic dungeon run and gain reputation for that particular faction regardless of the dungeon they're in.
Championing is new system for gaining reputation that was introduced in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack. This system allows players to earn reputation with multiple factions while completing a dungeon, by wearing a talbard from the faction they want to gain reputation with. The player will also still receive reputation with the faction associated with the dungeon, as well. A player has the ability to obtain a talbard for a faction by gaining a friendly reputation status with that faction.3 Championing only applies to level 80 dungeons. Heroic dungeons will reward more reputation than normal dungeons.
The idea behind the Championing concept is to help players gain reputation in a way that doesn't feel like a grind as it has in the past. Championing is certain to go over well with a lot of players. Already there was much cheering from the audience.
In addition, they will also gain reputation for the dungeon they're running. And if that wasn't good enough, wearing the tabard of the faction from the dungeon the player is running allows them to accumulate a small percentage of bonus reputation for that faction.
