A feral doesn't have a lot of choice, unlike many classes. There are three main partners you can pick such as Rogue, Holy Paladin and Discipline Priest. You can go with others and obtain high rankings but these are the bread and butter of the partner choices for a feral, we'll go over a little a bit about the strengths and weaknesses of these three classes.
As a Rogue, with double DPS, you always have the point blank problem of no healer, this is sort of negated with a feral as a few well timed heals can mean a feral can at least keep a partner alive in a life or death situation. If you are playing a decent healer/X team, the downsides are that you have really got your work cut out for you, Priest-Rogue is almost impossible with the stun locks and blinds a rogue can throw on you, messing up your rotation completely. However, the burst of this team is absolutely insane. With a bit of luck, you're able to nuke restoration Druids and Priests down in 1 stun-lock.
If you are new to feral or your partner Rogue is not very skilled, we'd really opt for a healer for your team, we will discuss why below.
Holy Paladin was a feral's only option for a healer in S5, as back then holy Paladins were just plain OP, these days we roll with a discipline Priest and we will give the reasons below. For now let us take a look at the strengths of the Paladins. Plate is a major factor. It would take a Rogue at least twice as long to solo a good Paladin over a good Priest, same goes for Warriors, this can play into feral/Paladins hands, when a Rogue attacks a feral in bear the damage is pethetic, and it isn't great on plate either, this is the main reason id suggest going with a holy Paladins, but Paladins also have massive CC issues, castable heals are also a big downfall for Paladins, as if a feral is caught in cat form by a ret/Rogue/Warrior.
