Fire Festival in WoW

Author: inwowgold Source: http://www.inwowgold.com

Some of  World of Warcraft s the usual growing pains an MMO suffers as it moves into the midway point of a new expansion, and some could perhaps be blamed on Blizzard's unnamed new MMO, which several noteworthy employees have left WoW to work on.

The latest problem involves the seasonal event, the Midsummer Fire Festival. By going around the world honoring your faction's fires and putting out the other faction's, you earn experience, wow gold, and Burning Blossoms. The latter can be traded in for seasonal garb, buff food, and a unique minipet.

Unfortunately for long-time players, the Burning Blossoms have a two-week lifespan before disappearing, and when the Festival went live, any fires that a character had interacted with the year before remained so this year. It's good news if you just wanted the achievement or if you had the Midsummer garb in your bank, but if you wanted enough Blossoms for the minipet, it meant the Midsummer meta achievement was mathematically impossible.

Further, the event seems oddly unfinished. The seasonal boss, Lord Ahune, still spaws in the Burning Crusade er dungeon, the Slave Pens and remains level 73. While he can still drop another unique manipet, his other drops can’t be sold, can’t be disenchanted and are itemized for level 70 characters and they weren’t that great for them in the first place. Moreover, while there are fires to honor and dishonor in Northrend, there is no achievement attached to them.

Blizzard has fixed this by resetting all the fires for all involved, and despite early reports, previously-existing achievement progress has been preserved. However, honoring or desecrating a fire no longer counts as a quest for purposes of achievements.

It’s troubling. The sheer amount of polish on WoW is what keeps people coming back to it, but with many events such as this one, the polish seems to be wearing off. Is Blizzard deliberately trying to drive people away from WoW in perpetration for their new releases, or is the company spreading itself too thin?
