The instance has been redesigned for 10 & 25-man raids. It consists of four different wings which, when cleared, grant access to the Frostwyrm Lair (a fifth & final wing). Progression is non-linear - raids may select their own path to the final lair.
An ancient Nerubian ziggurat, Naxxramas was torn free from the ground by agents of the Lich King to serve as Kel'Thuzad's base of operations as he spreaded the plague throughout Lordaeron.
With Wrath of the Lich King, Naxxramas has been moved from its location in the skies above the Eastern Plaguelands and returning to the continent of Northrend. As seen in the zone trailer video and confirmed by Jeff Kaplan, Naxxramas' new location is outside of Wintergarde Keep, the main Alliance base in the Dragonblight, where Scourge forces control half of the tiered fortress.
The Wrath version of Naxxramas will be a 10/25-man raid instance for new level 80 players (it has been called Wrath's version of Karazhan). It will have the same layout as the original, one large instance will many "wings" that allow the raid to choose which boss types they would like to fight.
In the third BlizzCast episode, Kaplan indicated that several boss encounters, such as Gothik the Harvester, Gluth and Kel'Thuzad, have been seriously reworked to allow for the smaller raid groups, and that these reworkings will present a challenge as these bosses were originally made for a 40-man raid.
Due to Kel'Thuzad fighting a war against the Scarlet Crusade, the Argent Dawn, the Forsaken and the humans of the Alliance, as well as constant incursions of adventurers from every race and nation into the Scourge-controlled Plaguelands on a daily basis, his forces have been severely taxed to maintain the security of his necropolis. But now that the gates of Naxxramas are open, Kel'Thuzad's new forces are rapidly sweeping away all opposition to the Scourge.
Access to Naxxramas, it is not requires special attunement via the Argent Dawn ang longer Instead, access is achieved through use of a flying mount. Players can fly to the underside of Naxxramas, where they will find openings to a room containing portals to the various wings of the necropolis. There is no teleport spire for players without a flying mount.
