Recently Blizzard has revealed World of Warcraft character transfer system for the first time, which allows players to move characters to different realms - although, as noted previously, you have pay for the privilege.
As we explained previously, we have been testing a character transfer system to allow characters to be moved from low population servers to ones with a medium population level. We are delighted to announce that this service is now live.
At this time, most of the players on English servers have the following options - note that this list has changed a little since it was first announced in order to give players on RP servers more option.
At present, transfers can only occur between a limited set of realms, although the developer has stated that it will "gradually scale up the list of realms to accommodate more players as quickly as possible".
Only the US official World of Warcraft site is updated with the character transfer system at this time, although Europe will be receiving the service too. Perhaps even today - but the European WOW site was kaput at the time of writing.
If you wish to take advantage of this service then you will need to log into your profile on the website. You will see an option for character transfer in your account management page. Click on this and you will get a list of all eligible characters and their server. Click the correct character and your choice of destination server and your character will be moved immediately. Your character will be in his or her new home within a few minutes. If you are already logged into the game with that character then you will need to log out for the change to take effect. If your character's name is already taken on the new server, you will be prompted to enter a new name during the transfer process. When your character has successfully arrived on its destination server you will receive an email to confirm the transfer.
You can transfer characters not just between realms but also between accounts where you are the subscriber. Please note that any attempt to transfer a character to or from an account where you are not the subscriber could be considered a violation of the World of Warcraft Terms of Use and could lead to Blizzard taking disciplinary action against your subscription account(s), including but not limited to warnings, temporary account suspension, or permanent account suspension, as determined by Blizzard. To initiate a transfer between two accounts where you are the subscriber, you will need to specify the account name associated with the account you wish to transfer a character to, and answer the 'secret question' for the destination account.
Without this information an account to account transfer will not be possible. Transfers between accounts are only allowed between accounts where you are the subscriber. We don't support the transfer of characters between friends, guild mates, family members and so on and so forth. To conduct an account-to-account transfer, you will have to answer the 'secret question' for the destination account, and the last name on both accounts must match. Blizzard takes the integrity of its game and the matter of account ownership very seriously. For this reason, the sale of characters and accounts is expressly against the World of Warcraft Terms of Use, and the transfer of characters from one account owner to another is prohibited. Characters can only be transferred between realms and accounts within the same region.
