Recently we have learnt that Blizzard was looking to add a dual spec capability in the next content patch. "The idea is to let you swap glyphs and action bars along with your talents. It will be trivial to do in town. You will also be able to do it out of towns, but not as trivially. We hope to have this done for the next major content patch, but it's a big feature and takes some time."
At that moment, the dual spec is a heated debate. That being said, there are a great amount of the players pay more attention to it. In the World of Warcraft, dual spec plays an important role and even more it is a part and parcel. But some hold different opinions about this. So we think it is the time for us to make mention of this topic here in detail.
In part, dual spec provided some new insight into how things will work. In particular it said that "It will be trivial to do in town. You will also be able to do it out of towns, but not as trivially." This is new information and should make everyone tingle with gleeful anticipation at how trivial it might be to switch specs while in Dalaran.
There are many players look forward to get dual specs, in particular for tanks and healers. The players won't have to spend horrendous amounts of gold just to enjoy both solo content and group content. The introduction of them will truly be game changing for many folks.
Dual spec is less so many classes can play each spec because they have available for free, a lot of people collected two gear sets and paid to swap between them depending on whether they raided, or PvP'd and so on.
In patch 3.1, dual spec isn't important. It's obvious that the patch 3.1 isn't expected before March 2009, and even if it had dual spec included, it would be too late to help leveling characters. The Priest just hit level 76 yesterday, and by March we'll certainly have both the Priest and Warrior at level 80. Maybe not the Mage and the Death Knight, but we don't see the Mage gaining a lot of utility from the dual spec feature anyway we guess most of the people who are against the dual spec feature are playing one of the classes it doesn't help much. Most Warriors and Priests would be delighted when it was introduced. Well, it might still help at level 80 for soloing daily quests but we'd much rather have had it already for leveling up. Unfortunately leveling in Wrath of the Lich King is too fast.
But what would you gain from the dual-spec feature shining more light on talent design? It's a slightly mysterious statement, but there is an interpretation is that when everybody can have two specs and switch between them either freely or at least cheaply, the load each spec needs to carry lessens. It's OK if Holy can't solo, because you can just switch to your Shadow spec for that. It's not such a big deal if Combat isn't as strong in PvP; just swap out to Assassination for the BG weekend, and swap back in time to raid. The trees no longer have to be strong in all areas of the game. But that's just guesswork on my part; GC may well have meant something else entirely.
In the near future, the dual spec system will be introduced in a content patch. The goal is to let you switch specs very easily in raid, even between fights! However it won't be possible to switch specs in the middle of an arena match.
