The new Inscription profession will also be available once 3.0.2 is live, with a max level of 375. Inscription will allow players to augment the mechanics that govern their class abilities, altering stuff like damage, cooldowns, and durations of specific effects and abilities. Every character will have six slots to which they can assign specific inscriptions of varying tiers of power: two major "glyphs," two lesser, and two minor. Characters with the Inscription skill will also be able to create scrolls, similar to the consumable buff items currently in the game. And as a secondary benefit, they'll also have the ability to create scrolls on which both themselves and enchanters can inscribe glyphs or enchants, enabling them to be traded or sold at the auction house.
Patch 3.0.2 will also see the introduction of barbershops, where, for a fee, players will be able to alter their characters' hairstyles and cosmetic facial characteristics. Barbershops will be present in all the major cities, and in some cases will allow characters to adopt a rival race's hairstyles -- for instance, Troll males can use some Night Elf hairdos, while Blood Elf females can pick some Draenei styles.
Perhaps the biggest changes insofar as game mechanics go are the expansion of each class' talent trees, as well as the addition of new abilities. All characters will have their talent points refunded once 3.0.2 goes live in order to enable them to experiment with the new talent trees. Needless to say, it's beyond the scope of this article to examine specific class changes, but we certainly look forward to seeing how the individual classes shape up -- even if the state of balance pre-Wrath of the Lich King is as tenuous as pre-expansion WoW was in the months leading up to The Burning Crusade.
There's still no word on when version 3.0.2 will hit live servers, but as of yesterday, game clients have begun background downloads of update data. As we've learned over the years, though, this isn't necessarily an indication that the update will be live soon.
