You can get tons of XP just by having your group doing most of the damage. If you're a solo player, then just get one of your friends to help you so you won't have to go with an entire group.
As far as grinding goes, it can be good, but questing is much more rewarding. Go through your quest log and delete any low level ones. It's not necessary to complete every single quest in World of Warcraft, therefore you need to only stick with the ones that can give you some good XP. Also, just complete the ones that don't require you to fly all over the place. Series of quests can be rather aggravating, and you'll be spending more time flying or transporting than anything else! If you're unsure about how to determine whether or not a quest is worth your time, look over a good WoW guide and add some add-ons in order to take shortcuts.
No matter what race and class you choose for your World of Warcraft character, there are shortcuts you can take for leveling up quickly. Whatever you do, though, don't try to rush through the game. Don't get too far ahead of yourself. You can power level quickly and still enjoy yourself too. World of Warcraft is meant to be played and enjoyed. With good instruction and guidance, you can get the best out of everything the game has to offer.
