Hitpoints Basics

Author: inwowgold Source: http://www.inwowgold.com

Hitpoints is the only skill in RuneScape that doesn't let you do or make something new when you reach a certain level. Levels in hitpoints are simply used as your hitpoints themselves. For instance, if your hitpoints level is 15/15, that means you have 15 hitpoints. Every hitpoint level counts as 0.25 levels in combat, so every four hitpoint levels equal one combat level.

Raising Your Hitpoint Level
The most effective way of raising Hitpoints is through combat. Every time you successfully attack your opponent, your hitpoints increase in experience equal to how much damage you've caused plus a little more. For instance, if someone hit a 10 on some monster, their hitpoints would get 13.3 xp (10 x 1.33). You may use Melee, Range, or Magic to raise your hitpoints. There are also a few other ways of getting hitpoint xp, but they are not as effective. They will be broken down between freeplay and members below.

Freeplay
Genie Lamp (obtained from Genie random event)
Book of Knowledge (obtained from Surprise Exam random event)

Members
Pest Control mini-game
Tears of Guthix mini-game (if Hitpoints is your lowest skill)
Antique Lamp (a reward from certain quests and Varrock Museum mini-game)
Preventing Death
There are several ways that you can use to prolong dying or gain additional hitpoints. These include jewelry, prayers, and a few potions.

Jewelry
These jewelries can teleport you away when your hitpoints drop to a certain point, speed up the hitpoints recovery time, and even restore some of your hitpoints.
Ring of Life: If you are wearing this and your hitpoints drop below 10%, it will teleport you to your spawn point. Note that it is still possible to die while wearing this, if you reach 0 hitpoints without dropping below 10% first. It will turn into dust once the charge has been used up.
Phoenix Necklace: When the wearer's hitpoints drop below 20% of their max hitpoints, their hitpoints will be restored to 30% of their max. It has a priority over the Ring of Life and will turn into dust after one use.
Bracelet of Inoculation: Protects against disease up to 250 damage.
Bracelet of Regeneration: Doubles your Hitpoint recovery rate and has no limit.
Saradomin's Brew: Temporarily increases your max hitpoints by 15. This bonus will decrease by one each minute.
Guthix's Rest Tea: Temporarily boosts your hitpoints by 5 if you have full health.

Prayers
Prayer can be a useful ally in combat as it can restore your hitpoints faster, protect you from certain attacks, and heal you partially.
Rapid Heal: Doubles the restore rate for Hitpoints. This requires level 22 Prayer.
Protect From Magic: This will protect you from magical attacks. It requires level 37 Prayer.
Protect From Missiles: This will protect you from ranged attacks. It requires level 40 Prayer.
Protect From Melee: This will protect you from close melee attacks. It requires level 43 Prayer.
Redemption: If your hitpoints drop below 10%, you'll be healed 25% of your maximum Prayer. Also, this drains all of your Prayer Points when used. This requires level 49 Prayer. Please note that it is still possible to die while wearing this, if you reach 0 hitpoints before dropping below 10% of your total hitpoints.
